Project Ostwind - the turret...

When I saw for the first time the awsome work of Alex Clark on his Wirberlwind, I was full of admire for his technical skills of PS cutting.

I also wanted to try myself something like this.
The turret of ostwind is a little bit less complicated. I bought a Part PE fret with the turret for having some kind of refference, and the building started :)

Just in case I made a copy of in paper and then I fit the builded flak. It suites quite well, and anything else I couldn't see. Then I cut the hexagonal base, and side panels. Side panels were later cut almost in a half, and fitted:

Not all the panels fit well, some I have cutted. But the build is almost complete. Almost, because unfortunately the flak should be hidden completely under the edge of panels, and in my build it doesn't. For now I have to take some rest, and maybe ver. 2.0 of turret will be builded :)

Have You seen some other scratch builded Ostwind's in 72 scale?

2 More Tigers II :)

On the desk I have put two models of King Tiger II. One from Dragon, the other from Revell. One of it will be in ambush camo, the other one... maybe octopus camo?

Anyway, for some time it will be cats on my desk ;)

As for now, the one from Dragon looks like this:

I started with some weldes, periscope protections, handles at the hatches.
The PE mesh is from Voyager.
I plan for this one an ambush camo.

Still some work will be done...

King Tiger V1 prototype (porsche turret) almost finished

I have added finaly some dirt and liquid marks at the deck. Before some final gallery, I want to put it away for a while. Maybe I could think of some more weathering, but now I've run out of ideas...

I have decided to bive myself a try at such interesting finish with a tank in almost fabric condition.

And so, I produced almost straight OOB such thing:

Project Ostwind - zimmerit on the hull of Pz IV G

The flak was assembled, and now it is waiting for some ideas what could be upgraded in it.
The Ostwind I want to make, will be the first produced prototype:

As was mentioned in the literature, after searching for the hull number, was assumed that hull cames from ausf G Pz IV. And so, I have finally find the way what to do with this very nice kit :)
Previous to the flak, I started adding zimmerit to the hull of Pz IV ausf G. I have made that with milliput white putty, and as this was done for the first time, I have made a lot of clumsy mistakes...

It was a good idea to cover some part of the wehicle with masking tape. When You work with putty, it will stick to the fingers, than of course it will went into the details in the kit. Next time I will wait some, maybe 1 hour, until the putty will became less sticky, then I will roll it to flat piece and applied it to the surface.

The MG ball mount and drivers vision port was also covered with masking tape.
I have forget not to glue the whells and suspension, the addition of zimmerit to the sides will be far from easy.
At the rear the pattern of zimmerit satisfied me, however at the front, I will add a spare tracks to hide it a little bit.

I will have to add also zimmerit to the fenders. Cheers!

Project Ostwind - 3.7 cm flak 43 from Maco

I'm keen on some tanks curiosities, rebuilded differently from their regular appearance, hence I always wanted to built Ostwind.

The old Hasegawa kit - I figure it out I dont have to buy this kit. I will try to build the first Ostwind, quite well documented.

The 3.7 cm flak will be taken from Maco SWS with flak set. It's a nice kit, with fine plastic parts, some of them are quite thin and have googd details.
The styrene that the parts of the flak were made from is white, unfortunatelly...
With this colour is quite hard to work, as it is hard to see the details...
So after longer time (the instruction sheet is for people that collected other  pictures of this flak) I have bulded the flak:

  The turret will be made from plastic and I will use Part's turret as a refference.
The hull will be from Dragon's Pz IV G, and currently I'm putting zimmerit on it.

21 cm Morser, 1/72 Revell 03169 [workshop]

21 cm Morser from Revell. Very nice kit, with a lot of details. I wanted to build it almost straight out of the box.

It was my first so big model in this small scale, so when builded looks for me almoust like 1/35 kit ;)
I wanted to make it in a towed position, with opened platforms. One should consider also leaving wheels unglued.

Most of the details were very crisp, only a barrel needed little filling and sanding.

Before painting, I leave it in 3 pieces, and in a towed position - hopefully some day a Famo will join it.

After sitting for 8 months in one of the boxes at the bookshelf, it reached cleaning agent and some painting.

I use very cheap acrylic car primer. I would like to compare it with Tamiya primer, but I haven't used it yet.

Then I used panzer grau for all the surfaces. After mixing it with german uniform feldgrau, I used sponge to create some scratches etc. I repeated making scratches with panzer grau after this step to make it more random. After painting tires and small handles and decals applying it look as below.
In the next steps I'll add some dust and more dust, but before that I'll have to think about some filters application.

 

After that step very diluted brown wash with hexane/turpuntine was added. The oil paint was first put on the tissue in order to drag out the oily residue, then it was transfered to small cap and diluted with hexane/turpuntine.

Shortly after small bare metal chips (made with panzergrau/black and some clear for satin) were added (again with sponge):

Now it is time for more scratches, but the ones that were made with dust...
